So. You’ve heard ‘Kindred’ flung around a few times, you know there’s a rehearsal room or two here, but the rest is all a bit hazy?

Kindred Studios was built in 2005 by Simon Hodgson. Originally only a few rehearsal rooms, you’ll now find private offices, co-working spaces, a dance and yoga studio, film and photography studios, a stage and bar, a cafe and Victoria University’s Music Campus.

In 2016 Lonely Planet listed Kindred Studios in their Top Ten Workspaces in The World.

Our office is open 10am – 5pm weekdays with the bar opening for band rehearsals from 5pm -12am each week day.  We are open 11am-6pm on weekends.

Here’s a few we’re frequently asked

I’d like to come and have a look around Kindred Studios, who do I talk to?

Pop in and say hello, we’d love to show you around! There is someone from head office here on weekdays between 10am and 5:30pm. If you can’t make it then, our rehearsal rooms are open till midnight during the week and 11am to 6pm on the weekends, so someone at the front bar may be able to help you. Otherwise get in touch and we can arrange a time to show you around.

Is Kindred a not for profit or government funded organisation?

Nope. Kindred Studios is 100% privately owned and operated.

We proudly offer our spaces to various professionals and are here to support the burgeoning Melbourne creative industries. At this stage, we do not receive any funding from arts bodies or the Government.

Can I perform at Kindred for free?

While all of our spaces are hired at a cost,  we are open to discussing the possibility of starting a residency or displaying your work here for free though. We love showcasing artist’s work.

I don’t work in the creative industries, but I like the idea of working out of Kindred Studios. Can I still rent an office at Kindred or use the coworking space?

Are you a freelancer? Do you have your own business? Are you human? We welcome entrepreneurs like you with welcome arms. We’d love to have you.

Man, this place is so cool. Can I work for Kindred Studios?

Aw, shucks. Although we don’t happen to be hiring at the moment, we’re always looking for people to collaborate with. If you want to be a part of the Kindred Studios Kommunity, we’d suggest giving our Co-working space a go.

Does Kindred have a record label?

We wish! While we have recording studios and spaces to rehearse and perform, Kindred is not a label, we are a blank canvas for creative professionals.

I’ve heard you have all these rad music, dance and yoga classes at Kindred Studios. How do I book them?

All our classes are booked through the organisation teaching them or the individual teacher. Please head to Kindred Classes to meet our teachers and get in touch.
